More Architecture inspired designs

Presently, many designers have started making accessories inspired by architecture. Why is this? There needs to be change. We cannot have one fixed style or design all year round. The same way seasons change.....so must a designers clothing range change. I believe in future, people are going to be dressed and accessorized in a sense that they may end up looking like moving buildings.

I found on the Elle website that there have been some designers that considered making accessories inspired by architecture.

Architecture Inspired Designs

For my final project, I looked into architecture like I said in the last blog. These are some of the illustrations I came up with. What I also did was not just look at the building structure on the outside, but also the structure on the inside because there were also some structural shapes in there.

These are some of the designs I came up with for my project and they are the final designs of the collection. They look quite daring, but isn't fashion all about daring people to wear clothing they have never worn before?

This is the design board I made for my collection. I placed images of where my inspiration came from on the background and had my designs placed ontop of them so that people would know where I got my inspiration from and exactly what I looked at. I alternated the colours in one of then to see how well the colours would work in different areas.

Synergy of Architecture and Fashion

In my opinion, in the future, a number of people are going to change their style and be a lot more daring. There are some Architects I have looked at and I think it woulde be fascinating to incoporate their building design structures into clothing to wear. An example of a designer that incoporates building structure in his work is Jean Paul Gaultier.

There are also some designs that also show the different ways by which architecture can be incoporated into a design.

Looking at the designs, you can tell the construction of them is based on architecture. Just the structure and shape of the designs say it all. In my opinion, these designs are buildings....but just buildings that can be worn.

Inspirations!

Lately my main focus has been on Architecture. I think building structure is fascinating. What I wonder is if people could actually take risks in wearing structured/ 3D clothing out on the street and not just have them on the catwalk. I do want to make the change so for my professional project I decided to look at Architecture and combine it with a bit of my culture.
I want people to actually have a feel of what the culture in Africa is like so I interpret them in my collections and designs. I think it would draw people closer to the continent and also inspire them not only to look at one culture but look at multiple to get more inpiration.

End of year Designs

For my Final project, I used mixed cultures to come up with my design. I combine the style from the western world with that of my own culture. These are some of the images of my final design. I used African print combines with satin and lace to give it a slight change.

Final Year aspirations

I hope that in this final year I would come up with more sophisticated designs. I would like to bring other cultures into my work and also learn how to work with different fabrics. I want to go to India because I think their culture in a way is unique. I love their clothing and would like to change it slightly in my own way. I would also like to now take inspiration from architecture. Buildings have different shapes and some have patterns and line that run in different ways to make the building stand out or look sophisticated. For my final designs I want to use fabrics that are slightly different to the ones I used in my first year. I want my work to stand out and to also have a signature so that when people see the designs they would know they were made by me. My final designs are going to have a little twist to them and in order to arrive at the results I want, I have already started making some sketches from church interiors and also building shapes.

Fashion tips I learnt

I learnt that we should never be afraid to try something new. Combine different colours to give a new look but never use more that 7 colours. Colours that work best are complimentary colours. Some colours can be combined with different neutral colours. In trying different colour combinations in the clothing you wear, you help yourself create a colour palette which you can use for your project or in your next collection.
