Updating My designs and Sketches

I always did edgy designs but I realised that I was not getting jobs because people taught my work was too edgy or futuristic so i decided to turn my designs down a notch by creating a different collection that was more fluid and less structural called 'Internal Freedom'. Images of my collection are below.

Fall Internship with Paul Carroll!!!

Working with this designer, I had the best training and experience. I learnt so much about designing and most importantly I learnt something I did not know I was good at naturally. In University we never really focused on draping garments, but working with Paul Carroll, every garment he made had to be draped. I was given a task and started draping not knowing what I was doing at first and then when I was done he was impressed with my skills and I was in charge of draping during my internship. Some of the dresses I draped for him are attached. I have never been so proud of myself and my work and I am happy I worked with him because I realised my natural talent was draping!

New footwear ideas

In the USA over summer, my friend taught me how to design shoes to go with African print outfits. Basically, you cut a piece of the fabric and place it on the shoe....if it has patterns you could cut out their shapes and glue them to the shoe. You can also put gem stones on it to glam it up. Heres an example. All you have to do is buy pumps and you can glam it up.

Summer Internship with Mjolk

I worked with Mjolk Homme
in New York for 2 months making
myself familiar with menswear and also helping them launch the new line, Lars Stoten, and the womenwear line. I designed some of their footwear, which I have never done before because I focused mainly on designing clothes. I also designed some of the womenswear clothing. I was also asked to get images or paintings with winter colours in them so I could make the winter colour palette. Here are some of the shoe ideas and flat sketches I did using Photoshop and Illustrator.
The blue sandal was edited using Photoshop. I was looking for creative designs for sandals so I made a collage using basic accessories by placing the accessories on different parts of the shoe.

India's Model accuse fashion Industry of Racism?

Indian top models are saying that the fashion designers in their country now prefer pale skinned models to them. Pale skinned models in their country make more than they do and they are referring back to the British colonial rules. They are complaining about losing out on some of the best jobs in their countries because of the pale skinned models that have come from Russia, Brazil, etc, to model in their country. Is this fair? I think models should be treated equally regardless of their skin colour and what they look like, even in their own countries. For more information on this article, visit:
